Dugout canoe donated as a fundraiser for building a new Queen Margaret’s School. Young children from QMS are sitting in the canoe to promote raffle tickets, while Chief Underwood and others supervise. The canoe and paddles were painted by Simon Charie.

Mrs. Elwood Modeste presented a sweater to Queen Elizabeth II in Saanich. Sweaters were also knit for Prince Ann and Prince Philip by Mrs. Francis Bob. Arthur Joe cutting cedar shakes for the construction of the long house in Somenos, published 26 March 1959. The long house would be used for marriages, ceremonies, and was large enough to house up to five families.
